Being able to charge your mobile phone on the go is important. Currently, there are two mobile phone charging options available in the new BMWs:
- Standard USB charging via any of the two available two-amp USB ports
- Wireless Charging via the cell phone charging dock in the center console
BMW’s new Wireless Charging function is located in the center console compartment via the smartphone holder. The utility is fitted with a secondary a microphone and an integrated warning system to alert passengers if the phone is left behind in the car. Two cell phones can be simultaneously connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth.
Even the quality of mobile calls in the BMW is taken into consideration during the design and engineering. The roof aerial of BMWs ensures minimal interruption in reception and the call quality should be as good in the car as it is outside.
The BMW wireless charging function is currently only available on selected BMWs such as the BMW 7 Series. However, you can still charge your phone wirelessly in your BMW.
Mobile Phone Wireless Car Charger
This magnetic car mount holder that connects the QI wireless charging device can be rotated 360 degrees and tilted up and down 15 degrees. It works with any mobile phone that supports wireless charging.
The car wireless charger has a stylish Aluminum cover, silicone anti-skid pad with a strong-hold sticker and magnet. It can be installed on the air vent, dashboard or any flat surface in the car. Active Park Distance Control as Part of the BMW Parking Assistant
BMW’s Active Park Distance Control, as part of the Parking Assistant function, provides automatic braking as an emergency precaution. The system takes over and applies braking when a possible collision in the rear is detected during reverse operations carried out by the driver.

Another useful function is its G-Sensor which automatically detects sudden shake or collision and locks the footage to prevent it from being overwritten by loop recording. The Motion Detection function is also extremely useful for parking and backing up.

The BMW Head Up Display is a display that projects drive and multimedia related information onto the front windshield of the car. The Gesture Control makes our list for the most wanted BMW gadget update. We call it the “magic touch.” It allows the driver to initiate functions with hand movements in the air. No, this is not a typo. The function recognizes gestures such as pointing in different directions, swirling your fingers, and even customized gestures for elective functions.
The Gesture Control system can control a number of tasks such as adjusting audio volume, accepting or rejecting incoming calls, as well as recording user specified gestures to pair with a user selected function.
BMW Connected with Amazon Alexa

Starting from mid-2018, Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant can work with selected model years 2014 and later BMWs via the BMW Connected app. The mobile app is free to download, and it connects with Alexa via a companion called the BMW Connected Skill.
You will need to link the BMW Connected Skill with your BMW Connected account to enable Alexa on your BMW. Once connected, Alexa can send remote service commands to your car such as manage your trips, switch on the climate controls in advance, and locking your car remotely. Awesome!
